“I’ve felt that dissatisfaction is the basis of progress. When we become satisfied in business, we become obsolete.”
— J. Willard Marriott Sr., hotel executive
Business is personal, it’s closely intertwined with our lives. Some people compartmentalize business from their personal lives. However, you use the same skills in each; planning, communication, problem solving, on and on.
More importantly, when you’re complacent in business, you’re likely complacent in your personal life. Complacency is the cornerstone of failure, it’s the exact opposite of improvement. Our goals in business and our personal lives need to evolve and continually elevate our experiences.
When’s the last time you really pushed yourself to accomplish a goal or try something new in your personal relationship? Have you recently fixed something that was bothering you? Are you making yourself better each day?
Volunteer for a project you’re not ready for, introduce yourself to someone new, recommend a solution to a problem, take a road trip on the weekend to somewhere new, learn a fun new skill, there’s so many ways we can enhance our lifestyles!
Don’t be satisfied with who you are – be happy you’re here and work to become better than the day before.
